Tail tip a hard finless point; body moderately robust, the trunk long, but tail relatively short (about 1.3-1.4 in head and trunk); dorsal and anal fins low; dorsal fin origin well in front of gill opening, but slightly closer to gill opening than to snout tip; pectoral fin present, but very tiny; snout short and blunt, its underside grooved; teeth of jaws small and conical, in single rows.
Light brown; whitish dorsal fin; head largely whitish with brown markings; lateral line pores on head in white spots.
Size: to at least 76 cm.
Habitat: sandy bottoms.
Depth: 0-30 m.
Lower Baja California and the central eastern Gulf of California to Panama.
