  • dark + 2 pairs large ocelli
Dorsal rays 76-83; anal rays 58-62; pectoral rays 11; body depth 2.3-2.4 in standard length; lateral-line scales about 95- 100; lateral line strongly arched above pectoral fin; teeth in a single row in both jaws; gill rakers very short and thick; scales smooth on both eyed and blind side.

Generally brown with two pairs of ocellated black spots on rear half of body; base of pectoral with a dark spot.

Size: to at least 40 cm.

Inhabits sand-mud bottoms.

Depth: 23-233 m.

Southern Baja and the Gulf of California to Peru.
