Moderately elongate, compressed; snout short (~3/4 eye diameter), pointed; membrane between gill covers not expanded at rear; top jaw long, tip with sharp point, reaching nearly to end of gill cover; no large canine teeth third gill arch with rakers; 21-26 rakers on lower limb of first gill arch; dorsal fin high, origin in mid-body; pectorals short; anal fin base medium length, 19-23 rays, origin under middle of dorsal fin; anus nearer tips of pelvic fins than anal fin; pectorals short, not reaching pelvics.

Narrow (~1/2 eye diameter) silver stripe along flank.

Size: 8 cm.

Habitat: marine, coastal pelagic, muddy estuaries and open sea, and brackish water; enter freshwater streams.

Depth: 0-10 m?.

Southern Baja and the Gulf of California to northern Peru.
