Overview
Main identification features
  • front nostril: large flap
  • pale + fine dark meshwork
  • no blotch above pectoral
Dorsal rays 7-8; anal rays 6-7; pectoral rays 21; caudal rays 7-8; a single row of teeth in each jaw; upper jaw with 3 pairs of bifid incisors followed on each side by one large canine; lower jaw with pair of simple incisors at front followed by 2 bifid incisors on each side, then a large canine; a large flap from front nostril; anus about halfway between anal fin origin and rear margin of disc; a small fleshy swelling on lower pectoral base without a free posterior margin; 5-6 rows of flattened papillae across front of disc, 6-7 rows across rear of disc, none on center of disc.

Overall olive with reticulum of small brown-edged whitish spots; sometimes a series of dark bars evident across dorsal surface; no dark blotch above pectoral base.

Size: reaches 2.8 cm.

Inhabits rocky shores.

Depth: 0-10 m?

Panama.
