Overview

Dorsal rays XXIII-XXIV,12-14, total dorsal elements 36-37; anal rays II,23-25; pectoral rays 12-13; head spines short, in a single triangular patch on frontals; a single pair of supraorbital cirri, tip single or with 1 branch.

Generally pale tan, nearly translucent with midlateral row of horizontally elongate dark brown blotches and horizontal row of small dark brown spots above and below midlateral row; iris + lips and chin red; a large dark brown spot on upper part of gill cover; outer edge of front dorsal spine red.

Size: to 4.5 cm.

Inhabits empty barnacles and worm and mollusc tubes on rocky reefs.

Depth: 0-5 m.

El Salvador to Ecuador.
