Click on image to enlarge. © Copyright Ross Robertson, 2006 · 12 Albula nemoptera 2 thumbnails  •  slide show español Overview Main identification features mouth reaches eye dorsal fin and a: long filament Dorsal rays 18-19; anal rays 8; pectoral rays 16; lateral- line scales 76-84; gill rakers on first arch 5-7 + 10-11; mouth distinctly ventral; a prolonged, filamentous last ray on the dorsal and anal fins (most pronounced on the dorsal fin); rear end of jaw reaches to below eye. Overall silvery; yellowish wash on pelvic and pectoral fins; tail fin dusky. Size: reaches 60 cm. Habitat: found mainly in estuaries. Depth: 0-10 m. The tip of Baja and the southern Gulf of California to Ecuador; also occurs in the Caribbean Sea. Attributes Abundance: Common. Cites: Not listed.
