Overview
Main identification features
  • forehead: 2 patches spines;eye: cirrus bushy
  • body and lower head: white spots
Blunt-spine barnacle-blenny

Dorsal rays XXIII-XXIV, 14-16, total elements 37-39; anal rays II, 24-25; pectoral rays 13; head spines weakly developed, in two triangular patches on frontals; top of head behind eyes smooth or serrate, but never with spines; spines also present on midline of snout; a single bushy cirrus above eye.

Head brownish with numerous small white spots on lower half; body brown on upper half lower half yellowish, densely spotted with white; a row of dark brown blotches along middle of side and small whitish blotches on upper half of body.

Size: reaches 5.5 cm.

Inhabits empty worm and molluscs tubes on rocky reefs.

Depth: 1-5 m.

El Salvador to Ecuador.
