Ticks are a group in the order Acari. Ticks are found in nearly every country of the world.
Roughly half of the ticks found in North America are introduced species. Ticks present
a danger to humans in that they are epidermal parasites and carry a plethora of diseases.
Most ticks are opportunistic, in that they will feed on any suitable host. Many ticks are
found on other mammals such as a dog, deer, or farm animal. The most common diseases
carried by ticks are dog heartworm, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and Lyme disease.
