Natural history |
This ant is hypogaeic or subterranean, and is known to tend coccids or mealybugs that suck sap from the roots of plants. This species was collected from soil-sifting and leaf litter sifting during our transect study.
How to encounter |
Hand sift leaf litter and soil over a white plastic sheet. Or try baiting for the ants by disturbing soil and then pouring about 50 ml of cooking oil on the soil. Sift the oil-soaked soil after a few hours.
