Overview
Main identification features
  • rear nostril = hole + a pore above eye
  • dorsal fin and a: low crests, at rear of tail
  • tail: tip hard
  • brown + white stars;tail tip white
Dorsal and anal fins scarcely apparent, developed only as skin-covered ridges near tip of tail; tip of tail hard and pointed; rear nostril above eye, closely associated with a large pore, giving the appearance of a double nostril opening.

Brown with starshaped whitish blotches; tip of tail white.

Size: reaches about 17 cm.

Habitat: rocky areas.

Depth: 0-25 m.

Southwest Gulf of California, central Mexico to Colombia , the Galapagos, Cocos, Clipperton and the Revillagigedos.
