Elongate, relatively slender; snout relatively long, blunt; upper jaw long, tip bluntly pointed, reaching onto interopercle; membrane between gill covers not expanded at rear; top jaw with pointed tip, long and reaching onto interopercle; no large canine teeth; third gill arch with rakers; 16-21 rakers on lower limb of first gill arch; dorsal fin origin in mid-body; pelvics reach under dorsal origin; anal fin with short base, 17-21 (rarely 23) rays, origin under last few dorsal rays; pectorals short, not reaching pelvics.

Grey-green above; width of silver stripe on flank ~eye diameter wide.

Size: 10 cm.

Habitat: marine, pelagic and coastal over sand and gravel bottoms.

Depth: 0-10 m?.

Western and upper eastern Gulf of California.
