This small Rocky Mountain Region species is distinctive in having narrow, pointed, moderately dulled galeae, a moderately pro trading clypeus, a weak pubescent fascia on the first metasoma tergum, and well-formed fasciae on terga 2-4. The male has relatively short antennae, a shiny clypeus, weak subapical sterna fimbriae, and a flat sternum 6. It seems to be most closely related to A. geranii but can be readily distinguished in the female sex by the moderately plumose scopal hairs and internal propodeal corbicular hairs and in the male sex by the fasciate first tergum and weak subapical sternal fimbriae.

FEMALE. MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — N = 20; length, 7-9 mm; width 2.5-3.0 mm; wing length, M = 3.12 ± 0.188 mm; FL/FW, M = 1.04 ± 0.007; FOVL/FOVW, M = 3.94 ± 0.058.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — Black except as follows: often with extremely faint dark metallic blue reflections especially on thorax and terga; mandible with apical third to half rufescent; flagellum below dark red to reddish-brown; terga 1-4 with apical areas hyaline, rufescent basally to clear apically; sterna 2-5 narrowly hyaline apically; distitarsi dark rufescent tibial spurs testaceous.

STRUCTURE. — Antennal scape length equal to first three and one-half flagellar segments; flagellar segment 1 as long as following two and one-third segments; segments 2 and 3 about equal in length, shorter than broad segments 4-7 or 8 slightly shorter than broad, 8 and 9 usually quadrate. Eyes each three and three-fourths times as long as broad or slightly longer, inner margins converging extremely slightly towards mandibles. Malar space and mandible as in geranii. Galea as in geranii but shorter, not quite as narrow and surface at least moderately dulled by reticular shagreening exceeded by maxillary palpus by last two palpal segments. Maxillary palpus as in geranii but segmental ratio about as 1.0:0.9:0.7:0.7:0.7:0.7. Labial palpus as in geranii but ratio about as 1.0:0.6:0.6:0.6. Labral process large, trapezoidal, entire or weakly emarginate apically, shiny; labrum below process convex, without cristae but with several extremely short rugulae just below margin of process. Clypeus strongly protuberant, with distinct round punctures separated by half a puncture width or less, surface shiny, often slightly shagreened in geranii but usually moderately shiny. Vertex short, above lateral ocellus equal to half an ocellar diameter or slightly more, dulled by fine dense reticular shagreening and obscure punctures. Facial fovea moderately long narrow, reaching below to level of line at lower margins antennal fossae, above separated from lateral ocellus by about one ocellar diameter. Face above antennal fossae with abundant longitudinal rugulae diverging posteriorly and abundant interrugal punctures.

Pronotum reticularly shagreened, moderately shiny, punctures minute, sparse. Mesoscutum and scutellum as in geranii. Metanotum distinctly punctate, punctures crowded, surface shagreened. Propodeum with dorsal enclosure coarsely tessellate, median area finely areolate with fine short rugulae basally; dorsal surface outside of enclosure and posterior surface distinctly punctate, coarsely tessellate; lateral surface coarsely tessellate. Mesepisternum dulled by fine tessellation an obscure punctures. Wings as in geranii but vein 1st m-cu meets second submarginal cell beyond middle of cell but rarely in outer third of cell.

Metasomal tergum 1 with fine scattered punctures separated mostly by two to three puncture widths, surface shiny but often weakly reticularly shagreened in apical area. Terga 2-4 similar but weakly shagreened throughout, moderately shiny to shiny. Pygidial plate and sterna 2-5 as in geranii.

VESTITURE. — Generally white to pale ochraceous except as follows: vertex, face below ocelli, facial fovea in upper half or more and surrounding fovea dark brown to black; inner surfaces tarsi pale yellow; tergum 6 and often apex of tergum 5 with some brown hairs (mostly white). Head and thoracic hairs as in phaceliae. Terga 1-5 with complete pale apical fasciae but weak on tergum 1 and occasionally interrupted on tergum 2 due to wear. Propodeal corbicula without anterior fringe, with well-formed dorsal fringe and internal hairs long, weakly plumose. Trochanteral flocculus complete. Tibial scopal hairs long, moderately plumose. Hind femur with dorsal hairs plumose.

MALE. MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — N = 20; length, 6-8 mm; width, 1.5-2.0 mm; wing length, M = 2.79 ± 0.171 mm; FL/FW, M = 1.09 ± 0.012; FS1/FS2, M = 1.48 ± 0.044.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — Black, often with extremely faint dark metallic blue reflections especially on thorax and metasomal terga, with same exceptions as in female but terga and sterna often slightly more broadly hyaline.

STRUCTURE. — Antennae of moderate length, in repose not reaching posterior margin of scutellum; scape length equal to first two flagellar segments or slightly more; flagellar segment 1 about one and one-half times as long as segment 2 which is quadrate or broader than long; segments 3-10 longer than broad. Eyes each slightly longer than three times as broad, inner margins converging towards mandibles. Mandible, malar space and galea as in female. Maxillary palpus as in female but segmental ratio about as 1.0:1.0:0.9:0.9:0.7:0.9. Labial palpus as in female but ratio about as 1.0:0.7:0.7:0.7. Labral process moderate in size, slightly reflexed shiny, entire or weakly emarginate apically, trapezoidal; labrum below process convex, without cristae. Clypeus as in female but usually without shagreening except at extreme base. Supraclypeal area, genal area, vertex and face above antennal fossae as in female.

Thoracic form and sculpturing as in female but propodeal dorsal enclosure with sculpturing rougher (more intensely areolate) and dorsal and posterior areas usually more densely punctate. Wing venation as in female but one specimen with only two submarginal cells in left wing Metasomal terga sculptured as in female. Sterna 2-5 sculptured as in geranii. Sternum 6 flat, emarginate apically. Terminalia as in Figures 109-113.

VESTITURE. — Generally white to pale ochraceous but with abundant long dark brown to black hairs on vertex, face below ocelli and along inner margins compound eyes; inner surfaces tarsi pale yellow. Metasomal terga 1-5 with weak pale apical fasciae of long decumbent to suberect hairs but occasionally interrupted medially due to wear; discs with short sparse erect white hairs. Sterna 2-5 with weak subapical fimbriae, not complete at sides (occupying median one-third to one-half of each tergum) except occasionally on terga 4 and 5.
