This small species from central Arizona is closely related to A; birtwelli; Both sexes of coconina can be told from those of birtwelli by the presence of weak but distinct apical pale pubescent fasciae on terga 2-4, complete on terga 3 and 4 and interrupted medially on tergum 2. The female of coconina has the clypeal hairs plumose as in A. topazana or A. washingtoni but the clypeal punctures crowded much as in birtwelli. In addition the female has the vestiture much paler than in any of the above species.

FEMALE. MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — N = 2; length, about 11 mm; width, about 3 mm; wing length, 4.25-4.28 mm; FL/FW, about 1.00; FOVL/FOVW, about 3.05.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — Black except as follows: mandible with apical half rufescent; flagellum below reddish-brown; tegula translucent, reddish-brown; wing membranes hyaline, faintly infumate, veins reddish-brown; terga with apical areas translucent, rufescent; sterna 2-5 with apical areas translucent, rufescent except narrow hyaline border; tarsi dark rufescent; tibial spurs testaceous.

STRUCTURE. — Antennal scape length equals first three flagellar segments or slightly less; flagellar segment 1 equal in length to following two and one-third segments; flagellar segments 2-10 as in birtwelli; Eyes each about three and three-fourths times as long as brown; inner margins parallel; Mandible, malar space and galea as in birtwelli; Maxillary palpus short as in birtwelli, segmental ratio about as 1.0:1.0:0:7:0:7:0.4:0.4; Labial palpus as in birtwelli but ratio about as 1.0:0.5:0.3:0.3; Labral process bidentate and reflexed apically, narrower than in birtwelli; labrum below process convex, without cristae, faintly shagreened; Clypeus evenly rounded from side to side, with broad impunctate midline; punctures round, large, separated by half a puncture width or slightly more, becoming smaller and more crowded laterally; surface dulled by fine reticular shagreening; Supraclypeal area and face above antennal fossae as in birtwelli; Genal area as in birtwelli but punctures obscure and sparser; Facial fovea as in birtwelli but separated from lateral ocellus by about half an ocellar diameter; Vertex as in birtwelli.

Pronotum with dorsolateral ridge rounded below; surface reticularly shagreened, not shinier behind ridge; Mesoscutum, scutellum and mesepisternum sculptured as in birtwelli; Propodeum as in birtwelli but dorsal enclosure with basal half with relatively coarse, short rugulae

Metasomal tergum 1 coarsely tessellate, becoming shiny near apical margin, basal area punctures small, separated by two to three puncture widths; Tergum 2 with apical area about equal to basal area in length medially; basal area dull, coarsely tessellate with minute widely scattered punctures; apical area shiny, coarsely but faintly shagreened, punctures distinct especially laterally; Terga 3 and 4 similar to 2; Pygidial plate narrowly V-shaped with raised internal triangle; Sterna 2-5 as in birtwelli but basal area punctures smaller and sparser.

VESTITURE. — Ochraceous except as follows: facial foveal hairs light brown; dorsal thoracic hairs dark ochraceous; tergum 5 with brown hairs medially; hind tibia with scopal hairs brown in posterior half; fore and middle tibiae and femora and outer surfaces tarsi brown; inner surfaces hind tarsus and tibia yellow; Clypeus with hairs abundant, of moderate length, plumose; Propodeal corbiculum with anterior plumose hairs sparse, with several long, simple, internal hairs; Hind tibia, tarsi and trochanters with hairs as in birtwelli.

MALE. MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — N = 3; length, 9-10 mm; width, about 2.5 mm; wing length, 4.25-4.28 mm; FL/FW, 0.94-101: FS1/FS2, 1,65.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — As in female but mandible with apical third rufescent and tergal apical areas more broadly hyaline apically.

STRUCTURE. — Antennae moderately long, reaching posterior border scutellum in repose; scape and flagellar segments as in birtwelli; Eyes as in birtwelli; Mandibles distinctly decussate, when closed extending almost half mandible length beyond midlabrum; with small inferior basal tooth or angle; Malar space and galea as in birtwelli; Maxillary palpus as in birtwelli but segmental ratio about as 1.0:0.9:0.7:0.5:0.4:0.4; Labial palpus as in birtwelli but ratio about as 1.0:0.5:0.4:0.3; Labral process bidentate, reflexed, shiny; labrum below process shiny, without cristae; Clypeus as in birtwelli but with narrow to relatively broad, incomplete, median, impunctate line; Supraclypeal area, face above antennal fossae, and vertex as in female; Genal area as in female but broader and angulate posteriorly.

Pronotum with sharp dorsoventral ridge; surface anterior to ridge as in female; surface posterior to ridge shiny, unshagreened, with or without a few weak rugulae; Mesoscutum, scutellum, mesepisternum and propodeum sculptured as in female; Metasomal tergum 1 shiny; basal area with or without faint shagreening, with widely scattered minute punctures; Tergum 2 with apical area medially half as long as basal area or slightly longer; basal area moderately shiny, with weak shagreening and small punctures separated by two to three puncture widths; apical area shiny, shagreening usually absent, punctures distinct; Terga 3-5 similar to 2 but increasingly shiny; Tergum 7 without noticeable pygidial vestige medially; Sterna 2-5 moderately shiny, faintly shagreened, punctures large, abundant; Sternum 6 flat, not reflexed apically, without apical emargination.

Terminalia as in figures 57-61.

VESTITURE. — Ochraceous except as follows: vertex and thoracic dorsum with hairs dark ochraceous; inner surfaces hind tarsi and tibia pale yellow; vestiture generally sparse, clypeal beard moderately dense, long, plumose; terga 2-5 with weak apical fasciae of pale pubescence but interrupted medially on tergum 2; sterna 2-5 with complete subapical fimbriae of short pale subappressed hairs.
