The female of this species looks a lot like a blue merriami but has longer galeae and larger and closer punctures on the abdomen. The male with its long clypeus looks more like a blue hicksi but the genitalia are slightly different and in sladeni the abdominal punctures are larger and closer, flagellar segment 2 is equal to segment 3 in length and the sternal fimbriae are absent.

The descriptions below are based mainly on a female from Vantage, Washington and a male from Jiggs, Nevada. This male is one of two known for this species and was not collected with any of the females. However, it was collected within 90 miles of females on the same flower a day later the following year. The second male was collected within 12 miles of a female locality.

FEMALE. — MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — Length, 10.8 mm; width, 2.9 mm; wing length, 9.2 mm; FL/FW, 1.07; FOVL/FOVW, 3.43.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — Color as in merriami but most of body with bluish-black luster, on dorsum of thorax luster bluish-green.

STRUCTURE. — Antenna! scape nearly as long as first four flagellar segments; flagellar segment 1 distinctly longer than segments 2 plus 3; antenna otherwise as in merriami. Eyes each 3.6 times as long as broad, inner margins as in merriami. Mandible as in merriami. Galea as in merriami but longer. Stipes as in merriami. Labial palpus as in merriami but ratio about 1.0:0.7:0.7:0.7. Maxillary palpus as in merriami but ratio about 1.0:0.9:0.7:0.7:0.7:0.7. Labrum as in merriami. Clypeus as in merriami but shagreening absent in center. Supraclypeal area, face above antennal fossae, facial fovea and genal area as in merriami. Vertex as in merriami but height slightly less than one ocellar diameter.

Pronotum, mesoscutum, scutellum, propodeum and mesepisternum as in merriami. Wings as in merriami but vein 1st m-cu meets second submarginal cell before center of cell. Legs as merriami.

Metasomal terga 1-4 as in merriami but punctures larger and rather close. Tergum 5 as in merriami. Pygidial plate as in merriami but center slightly elevated, margins not upturned. Sterna 2-5 as in merriami but punctures closer and larger.

VESTITURE. — As in merriami.

MALE. — MEASUREMENTS AND RATIOS. — Length, 9.5 mm; width, 2.7 mm; wing length, 7.5 mm; FL/FW, 1.07; FS1/FS2, 2.00.

INTEGUMENTAL COLOR. — Color as in female but clypeus white except apex and two small dark spots.

STRUCTURE. — Antenna moderately long, reaching anterior part of propodeum in repose; segment 2 as long as 3, segments 3-11 nearly quadrate; antenna otherwise as in merriami. Eyes each 3.4 times as long as broad, inner margins slightly converging. Mandible and galea as in female. Stipes as in merriami. Labial palpus as in female but ratio about 1.0:0. 8:0.6:0.8. Maxillary palpae missing. Labral process rather large, subtrapezoidal, apex notched, elevated. Clypeus, supraclypeal area, face above antennal fossae and genal area as in female. Vertex as in merriami.

Pronotum, mesoscutum and scutellum as in female. Propodeum and mesepisternum as in merriami. Wings as in female. Legs as in merriami.

Metasomal sculpturing as in female but sterna 2-5 with punctures more scattered. Pygidial plate absent. Sternum 6 as in merriami.

Terminalia as in figures 70-74; note the following; gonocoxite with dorsal lobes short and broadly rounded, apex rather narrow; penis valve wide, with large rounded dorsal lamellae, apex short, thick in ventral view; sternum 7 with large apical notch; sternum 8 with apex wider than neck region, apex notched.
