C. formosum is less commonly collected (61 c3, 37 9) than il1ustre and its distribution is limited in California to the Cascade, Sierra Nevada, and southern California mountains. The last tergum (figs.101, 102) furnishes diagnostic characters to distinguish both sexes of formosum. Also, male sternum VI (fig. 105) differs considerably in formosum by lacking the median spinelike projection of illustre (fig. 109). The form of sternum VIII (fig. 103, 104) is of considerable interest because of the expanded crestlike plate at a right angle to the flat plane of the sternite.
