Overview
Main identification features
  • 1st dorsal fin : dark streak
Dorsal rays VI + I,9; anal rays II,8; pectoral rays 11-12; lateral-line scales 24-25; gill rakers on first arch (including rudiments) 5 + 13; tail fin straight or only slightly concave.

Yellow orange on head and belly; remainder of body lavendar or bluish red; middle of first dorsal fin with blackish streak.

Size: to 9 cm.

Inhabits rocky reefs.

Depth: 3-50 m.

Clipperton, the Revillagigedos Islands and southern California to the tip of Baja California.
