Generally red or reddish pink; a dark brown or blackish bar below second dorsal fin and blackish spot at middle of caudal fin base; dark stripe on snout, continued behind eye.

Size: reaches 10 cm.

Inhabits rocky reefs.

Depth: 1-60 m.

Southern Baja and the central Gulf of California to western Panama, and Malpelo and Gorgona Islands, Colombia.
