Overview
Main identification features
  • snout sharp, overhanging
  • no fins
  • tail tip = hard point
  • nostrils: rear a slit on lip, front tubular
  • pale
Tail tip a hard finless point; all fins absent; gill openings under body, converging forward; snout very pointed, overhanging; teeth of jaws in 1 row, the largest between upper jaws; posterior nostril opening outside mouth, with a flap; anterior nostril tubular.

Pale creamy yellow, with small, irregular brown spots on head and a brown stripe along mid-side.

Size: grows to at least 30 cm.

Habitat: sandy bottoms.

Depth: 15-145 m.

Western and SE Gulf of California to Colombia, Clipperton and the Galapagos.
