Body elongate oval, highly compressed; eyes on right side; snout rounded, fringe of cirri along margin; mouth small, strongly arched, under snout; rear border preopercle covered with skin; fins without spines; dorsal origin before upper eye, 77 rays; anal 53 rays; no pectoral; pelvics small, separate from anal; tail not joined to dorsal and anal, rounded; scales rough; lateral line straight, operculum to tail base, on both sides.

Body pale tan, irregularly blotched and streaked with white, brown and black; fins whitish with irregular black spots and streaks on rays; tail with several irregular thin dark bars.

Size: 15 cm.

Habitat: benthic, sand and coral rubble.

Depth: 1-75 m?.

The tip of Baja California and the Revillagigedos, Cocos and Galapagos Islands.
