ASTROSCOPUS
STARGAZERS
Body robust; head large, flattened above; eyes on top of head; electric organs under 2 triangular to square scaleless areas behind eyes; front nostril round, before eye, rear nostril with crescent shaped groove inside eye, both nostrils with fringed margins; mouth fringed; body covered with scales; 2 close-together dorsal fins, 1st with IV-V sharp spines; spine behind upper corner of operculum blunt and skin covered.
A new world tropical to temperate genus with 4 species; 1 occurring in and endemic to our region.
