Etymology: Asymbolus: Etymology not explained, possibly a- , Latin privative, i.e., without; sym- , from syn (Gr.), together or joined; bolus (L.), lump or morsel, proposed as a subgenus of Scyliorhinus (Scyliorhinidae) distinguished in part by labial fold of upper lip not hanging over lower-jaw symphysis of A. analis and A. vincenti . ( See ETYFish ) ;   pallidus: Latin for ashen or wan, referring to its wan body color, distinctively paler than congeners. ( See ETYFish ) .

Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Body small, spotted, very pale covered with widely-spaced, sharply-defined dark brown spots; dark spots or blotches beneath the eye absent; head and preoral length relatively long. Caudal peduncle slender, dorsal, anal and pelvic fins low; anal-fin base equal to or shorter than pelvic-anal space. Teeth ridged, 5 cusps. Monospondylous centra 34-36. Posterior margin of first dorsal fin 0.59-0.69 times its base (Ref. 36718 ).
