Head relatively long - 28% of standard length; top of head profile ~straight; top jaw not extendible, top margin of front bone concave; first dorsal small, II-V spines, middle spine longest, origin a little behind origin of anal; second dorsal margin straight, anterior rays long; anal 19-25 (usually 21-22) rays, none to few scales on bases of first few rays, rear margin straight, with anterior rays longest; pectoral fin long, nearly reaching anus; 36-40 (usually 39) lateral body scales, 6 transverse rows of scales.

Lateral stripe widens at rear, maximum width <1/2 eye diameter.

Size: 14 cm.

Habitat: estuaries, sometimes into rivers.

Depth: 0-10 m.

Guatemala to western Panama.
