FishBase 1 thumbnail  •  slide show español Overview Main identification features 1st dorsal fin over anal fin origin body deep a: 0-several scales at front base silver stripe widens to triangle on tail base Body relatively deep, its depth about 5.0 in standard length; dorsal rays IV+I,11-12, first dorsal over origin of anal fin; anal rays I,27; mid-side scales about 48-49; lower jaw not enclosed by upper jaw when mouth is closed; abdomen rounded in cross section, not compressed into a keel; scales smooth; at most a couple of scales on front base of anal fin; pectoral fins short, reaching to about middle of pelvic fins. Translucent pale olive with narrow dark scale outines and broad silver midlateral band, narrowing to rear to a large triangle at the tail fin base. Size: reaches at least 8 cm. Habitat: forms aggregations in shallow bays and near coastal reefs. Depth: 0-10 m?. Southern Baja and the lower 2/3 of the Gulf of California to Colombia, the Revillagigedos and Cocos.
