Body relatively deep (16.4-19.5% of standard length); head depth 19.3-23.5% of standard length; top of head profile ~straight; top jaw not extendible; 1st dorsal fin with V spines, origin over origin of anal fin; base of last dorsal ray before base of last anal ray; pelvics reach to anus; 55-59 scales in lateral series; scale sheath on anal fin well developed, covering ~3/4 of fin.

Silver stripe on flank relatively narrow (maximum width 1.5 scale rows).

Size: to 10 cm.

Habitat: pelagic, coastal.

Depth: 0-10 m?

Ecuador to Chile.
