Overview
Main identification features
  • 1st dorsal fin behind anal fin origin
  • pectoral reaches anus
  • belly: compressed, keeled scales

Dorsal rays III-IV,7, origin of first dorsal behind anal fin origin; anal rays I,21; mid-side scales 37- 38; body relatively slender, its depth about 4.5 in standard length; upper profile of body very flat from snout tip to tail base; lower abdomen strongly compressed, forming keel-like structure; scales very rough, spiny on flanks; pectoral fins greatly elongated, somewhat curved, extending to level of anus.

Olive on back and upper sides, silvery white below with narrow silvery midlateral stripe.

Size: to 11 cm.

Habitat: forms aggregations in shallow coastal areas.

Depth: 0-10 m?.

Panama and Colombia.
