Generally reddish brown; median fins dusky dark brown to blackish; juveniles (under about 20 cm) with dark stripe on head behind eye and numerous, large dark brown spots on body. Size: attains 98 cm. Inhabits rocky reefs and adjacent sand bottoms. Depth: 1-650 m . Southern Baja and the central Gulf of California to Peru. Attributes Abundance: Common. Cites: Not listed.
