Head short, 10-13% of standard length; snout short (<1/2 head length), with strongly concave profile; mouth oblique, at tip of snout; well developed ridge across top of operculum; dorsal 18-21 rays, at about midbody; pectoral high, 10-13 rays; tail small, rounded; no anal fin; brood pouch under tail; body with 14-15 rings, tail with 33-37 rings; ridges on upper side of body and tail not joined; ridge on lower side of body , not joining lower ridge on tail.
Body and head light to dark brown, with pale bars, snout paler; white marks on opercle; tail brown, dorsal and pectoral clear.
Size: 6.5 cm.
Habitat: soft bottoms.
Depth: 3-20 m.
Costa Rica and Panama, Gorgona, Malpelo, Galapagos and the Revillagigedos.
