Short, stubby, eel-like, body height ~10% of standard length; tail length about equal to head and body length; gill opening large, mildly tubular; top lip not notched below front nostril; 2 rows of teeth on each jaw, conical outer row, chisel-like inner row; dorsal fin spines equal height and spacing; dorsal and anal fins not confluent with tail; dorsal fin origin over middle of pressed-down pectoral fin, XIII spines, 38 rays; anal fin 37 rays; pectoral 15 rays; scales small, close-set to slightly overlapping on head and upper body; body completely scaled except for mouth and area before eyes; inner 2/3 of tail fin scaled; inner 1/2 of pectoral scaled on both sides; pelvic scaly; spines of dorsal and anal with scales at bases.

(Preserved fish) light brown to tan, paler below; dark dots scattered on bases of pectorals and tail; fins clear; scales on sides with dark margins; iris grey.

Size: 8.8 cm.

Habitat: muddy estuarine bay.

Depth: 0-10 m.

Panama Bay.
