Body very elongate; tip of lower jaw projecting; no cirri over eyes; snout relatively long (24-27% of head length), broad, rounded; rear nostrils ~midway between front nostrils & eye; mouth very long, with eye before middle; tongue short, tip not extending forward past teeth on sides of roof of mouth; no teeth at front of roof of mouth; 11 spines on lower arm of 1st gill arch; dorsal XVIII-XX, 28-30, fin a little raised at front; anal II, 32-33; dorsal & anal broadly joined to round tail; 13 pectoral rays.
(Preserved fish) Body translucent with series of 8-9 irregular blotches along mid-flank; head covered with dark dots, larger below; opercular membrane dark above, spotted below; dorsal and anal fins with dark margins; no ocellus on dorsal fin.
Size: 7.2 cm.
Habitat: rubble habitats near reefs.
Depth: 1-40 m.
The western Gulf of California and near Puerto Vallarta on the mainland.
