Body a strongly compressed oval disc; mouth small, at end of pointed snout, snout short, ~2X eye diameter; teeth long and slender; lateral line ends under dorsal fin; dorsal XII, 23-24; A III,18-20; pectoral 16; scales rough, covering head body and dorsal and anal fins; 47-54 lateral line scales.

Body bluish white; fins yellow with black bands; 3 yellow edged black bars on head; oblique and curved black bars on body.

Size: 20 cm.

Habitat: rocky and coral reefs.

Depth: 2-30 m.

Indo-Pacific; vagrant in the Galapagos and the Revillagigedos.
