Body a strongly compressed oval disc; snout short, blunt, small mouth at end; teeth long and slender; lateral line ends under dorsal fin; dorsal XIII, 21-23; A III,18-20; pectoral 14-15; scales rough, covering head body and dorsal and anal fins; 38-47 lateral line scales.

Body white, with a broad black bar through eye and a thin black bar across tail base extending onto rear of dorsal and anal fins; a large black spot on back; yellow dorsal, anal and pelvic fins; tail fin clear.

Size: 20 cm.

Habitat: rocky and coral reefs.

Depth: 1-20 m.

An Indo-Pacific species; present as a vagrant in the Galapagos.
