Etymology: Chelaethiops: Composed from Chela, a Bangladesh local for a fish + Aethiops, Ethiopia, African country .

Dorsal soft rays (total): 10; Anal soft rays : 17 - 21. Diagnosis: single nostril on each side of snout; mouth opening at level of upper border of eye; short gill rakers on 1st branchial arch; D:III,7; A:III,14-18; P:11-12; V:8 (Ref. 2940 , 81282 ).
