Dorsal rays 76-88; anal rays 57-66; pectoral short (<1/2 head length); lateral-line scales 40- 43; body depth 2.0-2.3 in standard length; lateral line straight, without arch above pectoral fin; teeth in upper jaw in a single row; scales small ( Overall brown with darker brown mottling, sometimes with scattered whitish flecks and blotches; dorsal anad anal fin with dark dots.

Size: attains 30 cm.

Inhabits soft bottoms of trawling grounds, also silt or mud bottoms of bays and estuaries.

Depth: 1-40 m.

Central Baja California the central Gulf of California to Peru.
