Mimic sanddab

Eyes on left side; body elongate (height ~43% of standard length); head pointed, length ~37% of standard length; mouth ~37% of head length, ends under middle of eye; eyes close together, ~parallel, upper eye touches edge of head, ridge over lower eye; teeth ~equally developed on both sides of jaws, in 1 series on each jaw, no canines; base of eye-side pelvic on midline of body; urinary papilla on blind side, immediately behind anus; eye-side lateral line ~straight, from edge of opercle to tail base; gill rakers long, slender, 17-19 on lower arm of 1st arch; dorsal 73-79 rays; anal 57-62 rays; eye-side pectoral 2/3 head length; scales rough, 48-50 lateral line scales.

Eye-side brown, dark mottlings of varying sizes; fins dusky, sometimes indistinct mottling; operculum and along lateral line dark.

Size: 14 cm.

Habitat: sandy bottoms.

Depth: 75-145 m.

Southern Baja and the central -eastern Gulf of California.
