Overview
Main identification features

Springer's tube-blenny

Dorsal rays XVII-XVIII, 11-12, total dorsal elements 28-29; anal rays II, 18-19; pectoral rays 13; body relatively robust, head wide, usually 2 unbranched cirri above each eye, the posterior one very tiny.

Overall semi-translucent to whitish; males with blackish head densely speckled with blue-white dots; front of dorsal dark or dark & white, a series of ~10 short dark bars above base of anal fin; female with white blotches in head.

Size: to 2.5 cm.

Inhabits empty barnacle, worm and mollusc tubes on rocky reefs.

Depth: 1-15 m.

Costa Rica to Ecuador, including Cocos Island.
