Overview

  • head conical; mouth long
  • dorsal fin origin before large pectoral
  • olive + dark fins
  • teeth strong; roof mouth - row large triangular teeth
Dorsal and anal fins well developed, continuous around tip of tail; dorsal fin origin about level with gill opening; pectoral fins well developed, origin above gill opening; head conical; mouth large; teeth multiserial, including large fang-like canines at front of jaws; front roof of mouth with median row of about 15 very large triangular teeth with their tips angled to rear; lateral line along body; tail ~60% of total length.

Olive brown to greyish above and whitish below; dorsal and anal fins pale grey to brownish with dark margin.

Size: reaches 202 cm.

Habitat: sandy and muddy bottoms.

Depth: 10-100 m.

Southern Baja, throughout the Gulf of California to Ecuador.
