Head large, flattened above, rounded and narrow at front; both lips with flaps; eyes on long stalks, without papillae; rear nostril near middle of preorbital bone; top lip with 12-16 flaps; dorsal fin origin on nape, with 4 free spines at front, XII-XIII, 24-26; anal II, 29-31; pectoral usually 13 rays; lateral line scales 42-45; no scales above lateral line arch; notch under end of tail base; tail fin rays unbranched.
Inside mouth unpigmented; head with/without pale T-shaped blotch behind eyes; 13-15 dark bars along upper back; side extensively flecked, with 1-2 lateral stripes; fins pale, tail pale to flecked.
Size: 4 cm.
Habitat: coastal sandy areas.
Depth: 1-20 m.
