(Preserved fish) Head dusky, with eye-size blotch on cheek; 2 dark bars under lower jaw; under gills dark, with pale bars; body dusky with series of pale bars that become fainter at rear; ~10 dark saddles along base of dorsal fin; dorsal, tail and anal fins pigmented, without clear areas; female paler, without dark bars on body
