Overview
Main identification features Dorsal rays 20-25; anal rays 20-25; pectoral rays 8; total gill rakers on first arch 25-32; body very long, slender, ribbonlike, the greatest depth 16.1-23.5 in standard length; pectoral fins relatively long, 3.6-4.0 in standard length; lower jaw much elongated, its length 2.2-2.7 in standard length; teeth on tongue and roof of mouth; tail deeply forked.

Silvery on sides, bluish or greenish above; fins unpigmented.

Size: grows to 53 cm.

Habitat: surface pelagic.

Depth: 0-5 m?.

Tropical and temperate seas of the Indo-Pacific; in the eastern Pacific southern Baja California to Ecuador and the oceanic islands.

Body very elongate; lower jaw very prolonged; upper jaw short, triangular, and scaly; teeth present on vomer and tongue; dorsal fin with 22 to 25 rays; anal fin with 22 to 24 rays; pectoral fins long, with 8 or 9 rays; back iridescent blue green; belly silvery (Ref. 55763 ). Fins unpigmented (Ref. 4164 ).
