Overview
Main identification features
  • shoulder: 1 flap
  • dorsal fin edge black

Eric's goby

Long. slender body; long depressed head; mouth ends just past eye; one pore between eyes; papillae on cheek and operculum; dorsal IV, 15, no spines elongate in male; anal 13 rays; one flexible dermal flap on shoulder before base of pectoral fin; scales - few, minute, imbedded, non-overlapping; tail elongate, rounded; ~20 pectoral rays.

Translucent, sparse black dots on head and upper body; tail - top border and lower 1/3 dark; anal - base clear, medial black band, white margin; dorsal - tips of spines black, soft part clear, with outer 3/4 of rays black.

Size: 3 cm.

Habitat: intertidal sandy beaches, in burrows.

Depth: 0-4 m.

Costa Rica.
