Body very slender; head long (~26% of standard length), depressed, upper profile slightly concave; papillae on cheek and opercle; mouth oblique, large, extends about 1 eye diameter past eye; teeth in 2 rows on sides, 3 rows in front; dorsal IV-V, 16-17, both fins low, separated by about length of mouth, 1st dorsal with round border, 2nd dorsal long base, straight border, rear rays equal length to front rays; anal 16-17, long base; pectoral a little shorter than tail fin, a little longer than pelvics; no flaps on shoulder girdle before base of pectoral fin; no scales; tail fin elongate (~24% of standard length), rounded.
Head dirty light brown; body brownish yellow; upper head and body with scattered small brown spots and streaks; dorsal and tail fins finely striped; tail clear or translucent cream with fine curved bars.
Size: 3.8 cm
Habitat: live in holes in intertidal mud and sand.
Depth: 0-3 m.
Known only from the NW Gulf of California.
