Body elongate, compressed; head slightly compressed, mouth ~horizontal, at front, ends under front edge of pupil ; snout bluntly rounded; 3-4 pores behind eye, last at back of operculum; teeth conical, in bands, no canines; dorsal VI, 1st 4 spines longest, filamentous, curved, reaching to base of 4th dorsal ray, soft dorsal I, 11-13, reaches beyond tail base, two fins not joined; pelvics fused to form disc; anal fin I, 12-13, fin similar to soft dorsal; tail very long, pointed, twice length of head; pectoral longer than pelvic, reaches past anus; scales rough on body, absent on head, nape and chest, 28-35 large scales in lateral series.

Olive; back with dark mottling; a row of short bars or elongate blotches along mid-flank, alternate ones smaller, last at base of tail; nape with 2 narrow cross bars; narrow dark stripe from mouth to edge of opercle; oblique bar under eye; pectoral translucent with large black spot on upper base; tail and soft dorsal with small black spots, forming bars; spinous dorsal with black rear margin; anal and pectoral light; pelvics dusky.

Size: 13.5 cm.

Habitat: brackish water in estuaries.

Depth: 0-5 m.

Eastern Panama and Colombia.
