Overview
Main identification features
  • dark brown
  • front lateral linepores in white rings

Body very elongate and cylindrical; smout very short; eye large, longer than snout, 7.1-11.5 in head length; mouth reaching below front part of eye; teeth pointed, in narrow bands on jaws; front roof of mouth with teeth in 1-2 irregular longitudinal rows; teeth curved; pectoral fins very tiny, much smaller than pupil of eye; dorsal and anal fins low, confluent around tip of tail.

Dark chocolate brown grading to tan on extreme posterior portion of body; a narrow whitish bar below front of dorsal fin; black spot covering gill opening; pectoral fins also black; an oblique whitish bar on middle of head and white area in front of gill opening; front pores of lateral line surrounded by halos of white pigment.

Size: to 80 cm.

Profundidad: occurs on clean sandy slopes.

Depth: 3-20 m.

SW Gulf of California.
