Gill openings restricted to sides of body by fusion of gill cover membranes to throat; nostril with slender cirrus; 2 pairs long slender cirri above eyes; jaw teeth incisor-like, in 1 row, immovable; dorsal XI-XII, 12-13, notched between spiny & soft parts; anal II, 14-15; pelvic I,4.

Head olive to flesh; a blue-dotted, blue-white bordered orange bar angles down & back from eye; blue-black blotch to half-moon behind eye; orange bars composed of dense dots radiate from eye; eye cirri orange; iris orange, sometimes with inner blue-white ring; body pale olive to flesh above, flesh with black peppering on belly; 5 dark red-brown to blackish bars on upper 1/2 of body and tail base; with irregular blotches in between; a series of white lines and spots along the midflank; pectoral with blue-white bar angled across base, clear membranes, brown to blackish rays; dorsal light olive-green, dusted with black, more densely on spiny part; anal olive, sometimes with white margin; tail with olive base fading to clear margin.

Size: 3.8 cm.

Habitat: rocky shores.
