Click on image to enlarge. © Copyright Gerald Allen, 2006 · 0 Lepophidium prorates 2 thumbnails  •  slide show español Overview Main identification features dorsal and anal finsblack margins ll: dark streaks between pale pores Dorsal rays 124-133; anal rays 106-113; pectoral rays 21-24 (usually 22-23); total gill rakers on first arch 11-16 (usually 11-14); a well-developed skin-covered spine on snout; body scales small and rounded in regular rows, somewhat covered with skin, also present on head behind eye and cheeks; body elongate and somewhat compressed, the greatest depth about 7.8- 8.9 in standard length; origin of dorsal fin at level of middle of pectoral fins; pelvic fins inserted below eye, each consisting of pair of filamentous rays joined basally; dorsal and anal fins confluent, tail pointed. Generally pale grey grading to white ventrally; lateral line with black streaks between with whitish pores; margin of dorsal and anal fins black. Size: to 32 cm. Inhabits soft bottoms. Depth: 5-367 m. Southern Baja and the Gulf of California to Ecuador. Attributes Abundance: Common. Cites: Not listed.
