Elongate, slender (body depth 18-25 % of standard length), compressed; lower profile slightly convex to straight; adipose eyelid poorly developed; no spine on top margin of top jaw bone; well developed bone above front of top jaw bone; rear border of operculum evenly rounded, without fleshy lobes; operculum without bony crests; mouth at front; first gill arch with 29-32 rakers; dorsal fin 17-18 rays; origin of dorsal fin behind origin of pelvic fins; anal fin 17-20 rays; pectoral 13-15 rays, small, sickle shaped; 34-36 scales in longitudinal series.

Body yellowish-green; head silver; iris pale, pupil black; a narrow silver stripe on flank, about 1 scale wide, ~uniform width, beginning at level of pupil; scales on upper back with blackish borders, those at top most intensely colored and forming an indistinct black line; fins yellowish to clear; tail fin with tips clear or top tip dusky.

Size: 11.5 cm.

Habitat: coastal lagoons and estuaries, with sandy and muddy bottoms and low visibility.

Depth: 0-10 m.

Jalisco (Mexico) to Guatemala.
