Dorsal rays 13-17; origin of dorsal fin before that of pelvic fins; anal fin rays 14-16; body moderately slender, its depth 23-31% standard length; lower body profile strongly convex; operculum smooth, without bony ridges; none of dorsal fin rays forming elongate filament; rear margin of gill opening evenly rounded, without fleshy lobes; 34-49 midlateral scales.

Yellow-green on back, white below; inside operculum dark; iris blackish, pupil whitish, translucent; with broad dark green midlateral stripe; both tips of caudal fin black; anal, pectoral and pelvic fins whitish to yellowish.

Maximum size 13 cm.

Inhabits sandy or muddy shores, also enters brackish and high salinity estuaries.

Depth: 0-10 m?.

Lower Baja and the lower 2/3 of the Gulf of California to Peru.
