Overview
Main identification features
  • red-brown; lower head: red spots
  • dark edged blue bars: head 4, body ~14
  • pectoral 17-20
Dorsal rays VI + I, 10-12 (usually 11); anal rays I,8-10 (usually 9); pectoral rays 17-20 (usually 18-19); pelvic disc present; head and nape scaleless; body covered with small rough scales, about 29 between gill opening and base of caudal fin; first and second dorsal spines prolonged in males.

Upper half of head red, whitish below with red spots; four narrow blue bars dorsally on head; body red at front, purplish brown at rear, with 13-15 narrow blue bars.

Size: to 2.5 cm.

Inhabits rocky reefs.

Depth: 3-20 m.

Revillagigedo Islands.
