Dorsal low, very long base, XVII-XX, 31-34 (usually XIX, 32 or 33), total dorsal elements 50-53; anal rays II, 32-36 (usually 34 or 35); pectoral rays 12-14 (usually 13); jaws with outer row of spatulate teeth; eye cirri forming a dense bushy mass between eyes, composed of five pairs of cirri; body long and slender (depth at dorsal origin 8-10% of standard length); head blunt; preopercle border not skin covered.
Head olive; eye black; body reddish brown, with olive blotches; dorsal and tail fins with reddish rays.
Size: to 8 cm.
Inhabits mollusc and worm tubes on near-vertical rock faces.
Depth: 1-30 m.
Costa Rica and western Panama.
