Slender, wormlike, body height 3-9% of standard length; tail (without fin) distinctly longer than body and head, ~61-70% of standard length); head deep; eyes tiny, skin-covered, near top of head; snout blunt and square, lower jaw only a little projecting; lips thick, with fleshy folds, flanges at sides of corner of mouth; gill opening large, not tubular, longer than base of pectoral; pectoral 10-14 (usually 12) rays; dorsal and anal fins confluent with tail fin; dorsal 66-68 elements, origin over rear half of pectoral, spines evenly spaced; anal 45-52 elements; tail fin rounded, short - <3/4 head length; pelvics I, 3 shorter than pectorals; scales well separated; body and head scaly except for snout and lower jaw; scales with 31 radiating ridges.

Size: 11 cm.

Habitat: rocky shores.

Depth: 0-10 m.

Costa Rica to Panama.
